Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi interpersonal lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan menyatakan harapan, doa, dan ucapan selamat atas suatu kebahagiaan dan prestasi, serta menanggapinya, sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya.

Pernahkah kalian berharap, tentunya pasti pernah apalagi di dalam doa. Pada kesempatan kali ini kita ingin membahas tentang materi bahasa Inggris yaitu Exspression of Wishing or Hoping.

Maknanya “to want something to happen or be true and and think that it is possible” (menginginkan sesuatu terjadi atau benar adanya dan berpikir bahwa itu mungkin).

Students are able to wish someone on their happines

Cara Menggunakan dan Contoh Kalimat Expression of Wishes

Contoh Penggunaan Kalimat Expression of Wishes diikuti Simple Past

Wish diikuti oleh simple past untuk menyatakan bahwa situasi yang diinginkan tidak mungkin terjadi pada saat ini (present), karena kejadiannya sudah lewat dan kejadian sudah berakhir.

Contoh kalimat
Jessy wishes Mr. Mukti agreed with her opinion.
(Jessy berharap Pak Mukti setuju dengan  pendapatnya.)

Faktanya: Pak. Mukti tidak setuju dengan pendapatnya saat ini.

Contoh Penggunaan Kalimat Expression of Wishes diikuti Past Perfect

Wish diikuti past perfect untuk menyatakan tidak mungkin terjadi di masa lampau (past).

Contoh kalimat
My uncle wishes he could have owned a house when he was twenty-five years old.
(Paman saya berharap dia telah memiliki sebuah rumah ketika dia berumur dua puluh lima tahun.)

Faktanya: Paman saya tidak memiliki rumah ketika dia berumur 25 tahun.

Contoh Penggunaan Kalimat Expression of Wishes diikuti Past Perfect

Wish dapat pula diikuti past future (would/could + bare infinitive) atau (was/were + present participle) atau untuk menyatakan keinginan seseorang untuk melakukan sesuatu secara berbeda.

Contoh kalimat 1
The government wishes people were staying at home during the hurricane.
(Pemerintah berharap  orang-orang sedang tinggal di rumah selama badai.)

Faktanya: Orang-orang tidak sedang berada di rumah ketika badai berlangsung.

Contoh kalimat 2
Ghania wishes her friends would come to her house tomorrow.
(Defi berharap teman-temannya datang ke rumahnya besok.)

Faktanya: Teman-temannya mungkin dan mungkin juga tidak datang.

Cara Menggunakan dan Contoh Kalimat Expression of Hopes

Hope + Object / No Object

Contoh Penggunaan Kalimat Expression of Hope +  Object

She hopes to be a successful business owner.
(Dia berharap menjadi seorang pemilik usaha yang sukses.)

I hope to see you again sometime.
(Saya berharap bertemu lagi denganmu suatu hari nanti.)

Contoh Penggunaan Kalimat Expression of Hope +  No Object

We all hope for the best.
(Kami semuanya mengharapkan yang terbaik yang terjadi.)

I hope so
(Saya harap demikian.)

I hope not
(Saya harap tidak.)

I hope everything is fine
(Saya harap semuanya baik-baik saja.)

Itulah materi tentang wish dan hope. Yang selanjutnya adalah ekspresi-ekspresi mengharapkan seseorang untuk kebahagian mereka dan ekspresi-ekspresi ucapan selamat atas kesuksesan seseorang.
